Family Tree Maker 2019 makes it simple to transfer family tree files between different operating systems and computers. These steps will allow you to transfer your FTM files from one operating system to another. This tutorial will show you how to transfer your FTM file from Windows to Mac or Mac to Windows. However, the same steps can be used to transfer files from Windows to Linux and any other combination.

Transfer your Family Tree Maker data to an external hard drive
Copy your FTM Database file to an external hard disk and then transfer it onto your new Computer. These are the steps:

Click on File -> Save in Family Tree Maker
You can save your data under a name other than the current File (e.g. Family Tree Maker Backup).
Select Copy as FAM File instead of Save As to ensure that all items are included in the file.
After you have copied all your data, close Family Tree Maker. Next, launch Windows Explorer or Finder.

After you have saved your Family Tree Maker data to an external hard drive, it’s time for Family Tree Maker to be installed on your new Computer. Start Windows Explorer or Finder to locate the location where your Family Tree Maker copy has been saved. Right-click on the File, choose Copy, and then navigate to where you want it to be saved on your computer. Right-click on your File and choose Copy.

Transfer FTM 2019 to a New Computer
FTM 2019 must installed on both computers in order to transfer Family Tree Maker 2019 files. To move your files, you will need a removable storage device like a flash drive or thumb drive.
Start Family Tree Maker 2019. Next, locate the File you just exported. Next, right-click on the File to select Copy.
You can now save the file to your USB flashdrive. After you have connected your USB flash drive to your computer’s USB port, open the My Computer icon on your desktop.
Right-click this space. A menu will appear. To open the menu, please click Paste.
Your Family Tree Maker 2019 file has been copied to your USB flashdrive. Once this step is completed, your File should be listed in the flash drive. This can take several minutes depending on the size of your File. Now you can unplug the flash drive from one computer, and plug it in to the other.
After inserting the USB into the computer, copy your File from this Computer to Family Tree Maker. Select Computer from your Start menu. Double-click on the drive icon to access your USB flash drive.
Find the icon for your family folder in your flash drive. Right-click on the icon and select Copy. Right-click the icon and choose Copy.
